Compound JO33

Structure J33

This structure is a simple stone platform built to support a small perishable structure. Compared to other structures mapped and excavated at Palenque, this is one of the smallest sized structures investigated. The range of artifacts found in and around the structure confirm that it was a domestic structure and not a special use structure. They had the same figurines, stone tools, food remains (faunal) that other residences had, just less of it. This structure was located next to the large platformed structure J37 and may have been a direct extension of it.

Structure J37 Midden

Structure J37, as it was originally mapped, is not a single structure, but rather a series of structures built on a platform. We look on the backsides of structures for middens. Behind structure J37 was a midden with large concentrations of ceramics, burning, faunal remains, figurines and flaked stone. Large quantities of materials were found in and around this compound revealing this group was engaged in multi-crafting but also had access to similar figurines, pottery, food (faunal) as other domestic groups.

Structure J17

This structure is a long linear structure, built on a platform. It has multiple interior rooms and would have had a stone roof. The interior floors were plastered. There was a bench in one room.
